The
Big Art auction was so successful in 2009 that it’s happening again this year to raise much-needed funds for
The Big Issue — an independent current affairs and entertainment magazine sold on city streets by people experiencing long-term homelessness or unemployment.
There are more than 4,000 homeless people in Brisbane, with about 350 squatting in the CBD alone. The funds raised through Big Art help to support Brisbane’s 50 Big Issue vendors who are determined to help themselves.
The exhibition will be at the
Bleeding Heart Gallery in Brisbane’s historic School of Arts Building, where the art will be auctioned at a ticketed event on
14 October 2010.Some of the artists from 2009 are contributing again this year including high profile artist Regan Tamanui and Keith Burt, an emerging artist who was selected for judging at this years national Churchie Art prize.
Well-known Brisbane identities from the creative community — author Nick Earls, diva Kate Miller-Heidke and fashion designers Easton and Pearson are also donating to this years auction event.
